As some may know I am getting married this year Smile My mother is a cake decorator and we have been looking at ideas for our cake. It is a ocean theme wedding, on a boat and shells run through most of the design ie. invites, table decorations etc.
I found these cakes http://www.beach-wedding-themes.com/ocean-wedding-themes.html and love a few of them so they are the basis of our ideas now.
My mum is going away for 6 months and flying back a couple of days before the wedding so it will be a joint effort between me, my sister and her. I am doing the shells :S I used to be a potter and have modelled in marzipan before too so hopefully its not too different.
A cheat way I have found is chocolate moulds, I may even use chocolate yet as the cake is mudcake. And you can get this pearl dust that give lovely colours and lustre.
Anyway photos will come... And any ideas are welcome.

Here's some pics of the cake... on top are two mermaids that my daughter made from Fimo. The colours have come out a bit too orange in these photos.

That is a great idea. So many weddings I've been to and never have I seen or heard of that idea.

They really are fantastic! I have long been involved in the making of fancy cakes (characters and so on) but never seen that as an idea. You did a great job!

Laughing Hi...,
I have tried to make them with fondant but with bad results. I was told do use chocolate and then dust them with the gold powder after cooled. However I do not know how to dust them so that the dust stays thick and colorful and in place. I am working with molds.
Please Help.
Thank you in advance......

Hello,

If you really want to give your cake a beach theme touch then use beach theme based cake toppers and cake accessories, you can easily find it in wedding gift decoration or wedding accessories stores.
