Interview with quilter and fabric crafter Ronnie, continued. What kind of workspace do you have? I work in my dining room, do all my rotary cutting
on the kitchen bench. Keep "sew-happy.com" stock in my formal
lounge and am now totally utilising rooms that were hardly used before. My rotary cutter - I have quite a few. Yes, some bowls are just made with a circle of Timtex
sandwiched with fabric - darts are then cut at even intervals and re-joined
with a satin stitch. The top rim of the bowl is also satin stitched to
match. That's the quick and easy method, there are lots of fun methods
using templates, beads, embellishing, binding to complete, etc. The benefits I have found by using the internet for
my small craft business is that I can work from home. I am not carrying
too much stock and am on-hand most of the time to fulfil an order or answer
any queries. I offer free advice, help or tuition via email, MSN or phone
if anyone is interested in the craft, whether they have made a purchase
or not.
Yes, getting your web-site noticed. Advertising has been a financial burden to me and the sales via the web-site are few and far between. I offer specials on the web-site and this has promoted those who have ordered to spend more than $100. But advertising has cost me more than $200 plus GST each month - a burden I can't carry for much longer. Do you sell your quilts and fabric crafts products anywhere other than online? Yes, I have made a few commissioned quilts which has
covered the cost of materials for the grandies Christmas quilts and I
sometimes sell Timtex and other related products on eBay (where I also
advertise my on-line store). I buy a lot of fabric from local stores and on eBay.
